About Us

On 1st July 2015, the Arts Development Company was born, the end of a very long and complex process to ‘spin out’ of the local authority (Dorset County Council) into an employee-owned Community Interest Company – The Arts Development Company. This is a new era in arts development provision for local arts organisations, artists and the community we serve in Dorset.

Although Dorset County Council (DCC) have always been very supportive of the arts and we’re grateful to the voices sticking up for us, the future of local authority arts services in their current guise was, and still is, very uncertain. We were determined that the great work we’ve been doing should continue, and hoped we could achieve this by taking things into our own hands and moving into our own company.

The Arts Development Company is a social enterprise, leading arts development for Dorset and beyond. We work with partners across arts and culture and in other sectors to develop strategy and policy, to deliver collaborative programmes and projects, and to improve lives in our community.

We know the power of the arts to change lives and increase achievement and the positive impact this has on the health of individuals and communities.

Our projects galvanise and inspire communities, engender confidence, strengthen resilience in a rapidly changing environment and contribute additional social, economic, environmental and health outcomes.

Registered as Dorset Arts Development Service CIC 9517916. Trading as The Arts Development Company.
