Artz+, across Dorset

Lunchtime on a warm summer’s day in North Dorset. An audience gathers for a one-off arts experience ‘Journey to the Stars’ with Cornwall’s Squashbox Theatre. Among the audience were disabled children supported by Artz+ Sportz+, who, following the performance, participated in a puppet making workshop. This performance was part of the Artsreach Creative Summer Programme for Children.

The performance involved a blend of puppetry, storytelling, live music and comedy sprinkled with science and astronomy facts and all contained within an accessible and funny family show.

The aim with Squashbox Theatre is to create shows that are funny, friendly, surprising, inspiring, unusual,  informative (and a little bit mischievous!), and which use traditional puppetry and storytelling skills in an exciting and innovative way.

For every school holiday, Artz+ Sportz+ creates inclusive cultural experiences for children aged 5 to 18, and their siblings. They can safely enjoy something new, transformative, and creative. They hold events across Dorset and in collaboration with arts organisations, museums, woodlands, theatre companies and freelance creatives.
